Randy's Miami jai Alai Memories

The following are some of Randy's memories from his Miami years. Randy was the first american professional jai alai player.

(If anybody would like to contribute to maintain jai alai's historical memory alive, I'll encourage to send them to me and share them with among all of us.)

"One night Pierre (as a frontcourter) had like 6-7 overserves in his first 3 games. Fans were booing...Pedro Mir was visibly upset and ordered Pierre in front of all of the other players to go out and only practice serving during warmups.

Another time I had been playing pretty bad and as I came off the court Pedro Mir told me to meet him in his office. I was so scared as I knocked on his door...when I went in, all Pedro said to me was "I want to see you in my office at 12pm tomorrow." I didn't sleep all night...the next day Pedro told me he wanted me to come and practice for one hour everyday for one week. (This was before matinees)

And last was his last year as manager...as usual he was sitting at his seat in the players cage and Marcoida threw a hard reverse that angled toward the players cage. The pelota went through the screen and hit Pedro right in the forehead...blood starting gushing everywhere. The Cubans standing close to the cage starting yelling and laughing at Pedro and even with blood everywhere...Pedro Mir was curssing back at them calling them all hijos de putas."

Thanks for sharing your memories... Randy. Young players have visions, old players have memories
